Apparently I made no resolutions last year, and I intend continue that trend this upcoming year. That way I can't fail and if I do anything substantial, then I can feel great about it (and I won't feel bad and useless when I don't accomplish the things I really want to get to get accomplished, like make a pro-sale or land an agent for my novel.).
So, what all did I get done this year?
According to Duotrope, I made 77 submissions this year (I could have gotten it up to 80, but decided to wait until after the New Year to send out stuff I got rejections for in the last two weeks). I had three requests for rewrites, none of which resulted in a sale (though one might if I can ever get around to trying to do the rewrite. It's a pretty substantial one and I don't want to embark on it until I know what to do with it). 4 were withdrawals, for lack of response. 9 are still out on submission.
I made 5 sales:
"The Divine Conquest of Mexico" to Sorcerous Signals
"Independence Day" to Vortex Temporum/All Possible Worlds (which unfortunately went under, but hey, I still got paid)
"So Weeps the Thunder Bird" to Lilith Unbound
"What Makes Us Strong" to Atomjack
"Love, Blood and Octli" to Paradox
Other milestones of note:
1 non-placing finalist for WotF
1 honorable mention for WotF
1 story appeared in a magazine's "best of" print anthology
30 personal rejections, which is just over 50% of my total rejections. Pretty cool.
On the actual writing-front, I wrote 4 stories, 4 novelettes, a novella, and wrote 2/3rds of a novel, for a total of about 215k words. The plan for January is to continue rewriting the novel, but also to get a few stories shaped up to send out, and of course to start on some new ones.

It's about half-way through the year now and so time to look at the numbers and see how productive I'm being:
Total number of subs: 146
Total number pending responses: 12
Total number of rejections: 112
Total number of acceptances: 10
Total number of withdrawals: 10
Acceptance ratio: 7.4% (which is about the same as last year, though I go up to 8% if I exclude withdrawals from the calculation and just compare to rejections)
Total number of subs in last 12 months: 101
Most popular market: F&SF with 18 subs so far
Most times out before sale: 15
Looking back at January's statistics, so far this year:
Number of subs: 53
Number of rejections: 40
Number of acceptances: 3
Number of withdrawals: 7
This brings me down to a 7.3% acceptance ratio on the year, or all the way up to an 8.8% if I exclude the withdrawals.
Can you tell I'm wasting time? :)
