Morning Star Falling
Another really good day yesterday, just over 3600 words done in addition to doing the reading and critiquing and still getting my game time. I was bad this morning though and played the game a little bit instead of writing at 6:30, like I have the last two days, so as a consequence, I've decided I have to write 4k words today. It was perfectly good wasted time in which I could have done 500 words, but instead got sucked into doing more with the game than I'd intended when I went there this morning.
With the flist predicting the demise of LJ, I decided to do some scouting around for potential places to move my journal should LJ die (I certainly hope it doesn't, but it doesn't hurt to have alternatives in mind should it happen.). For right now, it looks like running a wordpress blog off my website isn't feasible since I've discovered that my host doesn't support the database necessary for it, which makes me grumble. I'd been thinking for a while of moving my blog to my website, but so long as I'm using my internet provider's webspace, I won't be able to, and I'm not quite sold on the idea of investing money in doing my website with a new host. I have a Blogger account that I never set a blog up for, so I messed around with that for a while yesterday, and I really don't like it much (for some reason it won't let me put subjects/titles on my posts, though the FAQ says I should be able to. When I go to the post page, the block for typing that part is missing). The templates aren't as diverse nor interesting as LJ's, and I dislike the lack of a friend's page for ease of keeping up with my friends. MySpace is completely retarded--not even sure why I keep that page, but I do--and have no intention of moving my main blog there. I've seen mention of some other blog places out there, like Vox and Insane Journal, but I haven't looked into them. Switching to Blogger would probably be easiest since I already have it set up (and apparently I can import my LJ entries, but I haven't really looked into that yet), but I'm hoping I don't have to.
A couple weeks ago I joined the SF Book Club, mainly so I can get books for the kids cheap, and some Stephen King for me, and my special 1 dollar books arrived yesterday. I got a couple for Dana (InkDeath and Coraline, though I want to read the latter myself as well), a S King book and Cormac McCarthy's The Road for me, and a set of Star Wars schematics and a Batmobile owner's manual for Gaaron. You should have seen how Gaaron's eyes bugged out at the SW schematics; it was like I'd just given him the greatest gift in the world. Quite priceless, and all for a buck! What a bargain! :-)
